CCE-R Newsletter November 2010Editorial

Let’s “sharpen the saw” with Jazz, particularly
with the Swiss one
In the last editorial
I touched an idea inspired by the Stephen Covey’s Book “7 Habits of Highly
Effective People”: we do not have
to forget to “sharpen the saw”, meaning among others to find a balance between
the business and the spiritual life.
In the present
editorial I decided to highlight this topic and therefore not to spend any word
about the business or crisis, but about a very pleasant and relaxing topic: the
jazz music.
I will start by announcing to you Nik Baertsch’s modern solo piano concert that took place at the National
Theater, last Sunday, the 28th of November at 20:00.Nik Baertsch is
considered to be the greatest Swiss Jazz artist at the moment, having enthusiastic
reviews all over the world. His music goes under the name of zen-funk. You
could also call it a fascinating variant of groove-based minimalism or you can
call it ritual jazz.
I had the privilege to
be present at 2 concerts of his band “Ronin” in Romania, being really fascinated of
the power, deepness and surprising sound conveyed by his music. I also had the
honor to get to know Nik, who is a very interesting, powerful and at the same
time friendly and modest personality.
It was a pleasure for
me to also contribute on a voluntary basis to the popularization and
organization of Nik’s events in Bucharest.
From our Chamber of
Commerce, Holcim and Geberit made the events possible as sponsors and I would
like to thank Holcim for the kind support.
I militate in favor of
such kind of jazz events that “sharpen the saw” of thousands of people and I
put therefore a lot of efforts in order to make them happen.
Because the jazz music
cannot survive only from sold tickets (apart from maybe few legends like Keith
Jarret or John McLaughlin who can fill a stadium), because from the state
institutions there is also not much to expect, it is a huge challenge to rise
private funds, but also a huge satisfaction to share with other people the joy
and exaltation of a good music.
Dear members, as a
final message I would like to encourage you to enjoy, but also to support
according to your possibilities any kind of art. The art is a form of beauty
that makes us escape to a magic world, that refills our batteries. As a
paradox, the art is on the other side one of our last priorities on our
business agenda and, at least in Romania, the contribution of the
private business environment is crucial.
With my best regards,
Catalin Mitroi
