14.11.2007 - 6.12.2007, CulturEscapes Festival, Basel, Zurich, Uster Date: 2007-11-22

During the Festival's approx. three-week run (from 14 November through 6 December 2007), Culturescapes will host a large variety of individual events, the major part of which will take place in Basel, with a smaller number spread out in the cities of Lörrach, Dornach, Zürich, and Uster. The programme will propose concerts, literary events, exhibitions, films, theatrical productions, and lectures.

Once again, music will be vested with a major role in this year's edition. Be it classical, jazz, folklore, or electro, the medium of music innately vehicles an insight into Romanian culture that transcends linguistic barriers. The Festival's opening concert in Basel's Martinskirche will provide the occasion to delight in the production of one of Romania's most renowned names in classical music: George Enescu's Chamber Symphony 33 in E major (1954) interpreted by the Basel Chamber Orchestra.

The Culturescapes Festival is being held under the patronage of Micheline Calmy-Rey, President of the Swiss Confederation and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, together with Traian Băsescu, President of Romania. The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) supports this Festival as a means of acquainting the Swiss public with the East European cultural scene.
