Radu Furnica: Romania will crash into a wall Date: 2009-09-24
Romania is heading the wrong way. The economy is the black sheep of the society and the political class, and its public administration is not supporting it, rather it is paralyzing the economy.
This is what the best-known headhunter in Romania, Radu Furnica, President of the Leadership Development Solutions (LDS) company said, at a time when Romanian politicians are trying to draw attention away from the country’s real economic and societal problems.
According to Furnica, the current crisis is only a symptom of Romania’s weakness in the context of globalization. The real crisis which Romania is heading for is a far more serious one, deeper, and more devastating. “This crisis is generated especially by the lack of competence for solving society’s fundamental problems,” LDS’ President said.
“The political class refuses to learn from the behaviour of top managers, whose job is to solve problems. The problems in the economy and those of the nation are not complicated. But you need to admit that you have a problem, and have the courage to make a decision. Someone needs to take the responsibility for that decision, like in a company Board. But we are specialists in running away from responsibility,” Furnica said.
If we consider the country to be an enterprise, what it all boils down to is measuring performance, according to the human resource specialist. The only difference between a business organization and a country, according to Furnica, is that the former has an owner while the latter does not.
“I do not want to create a nightmare scenario regarding our future. But, if you are heading for a wall and don’t stop walking, or change direction, what will happen?” Furnica asked.
