Swiss Ambassador’s Message

Romania is an attractive business partner: Romania ranks now 37th on the World Bank annual “Doing Business” ranking (moving up from rank 48 for last year). Its economic potential is huge. In addition to a steady growth and a growing internal market, Romania has the chance to be in the EU with access to special EU fundings. In May and June this year, I visited 14 Swiss companies active in Romania and members of the Chamber: all of them were very happy of their results in terms of turnover and profit.

Starting two years ago, there has been an important fight against corruption undertaken in Romania. The expectations from the Romanian people with regard to this fight but also to the efficiency of the state’s institutions are high and have been heard by the authorities. Let’s hope this will also impact positively Romania’s attractiveness.

I’m especially pleased to say that we, as an Embassy, have a very good cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce Switzerland - Romania. In order to ensure this good cooperation and take advantage of possible synergies, we participate actively in the board meetings and have regular contact with the members. The Chamber takes over all operational tasks for Swiss companies in Romania, while the Embassy supports the Chamber and Swiss companies when they face issues of principle.
