The modernization of the rail infrastructure and rolling material is on the political agenda of the three Southern-Eastern European countries.

• Romania has been exploring the possibility of developing a high-speed rail network to enhance connectivity within the country and to neighboring countries like Hungary and Bulgaria.
• Bulgaria has been working on the Sofia-Belgrade railway project to improve rail connectivity as for freight and passenger transport between Bulgaria and Serbia.
• One of the major railway projects in Serbia is the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed rail line, which is part of the larger European transport network (TEN-T).
