Can you tell us about your professional background and what led you to take on the role of Vice President Commercial Electrification at ABB in Romania?

I've always been passionate about the technical field. After graduating Power Engineering from the University of Polytechnics in Bucharest, I continued my studies in Switzerland and started working at ABB in 2006.

I also achieved an MBA degree in General Management from CNAM Paris in collaboration with the Academy of Economic Studies Bucharest.

Over time I have held various roles of high responsibility at ABB in Romania, growing with the company and having the opportunity to learn and gain a valuable experience. In October 2023 I took even more responsibility, taking over the position of Vice President Commercial, Electrification, which is a leading role for ABB's main business area in the country.

What are the key priorities for ABB in Romania in the coming years, and how do they align with ABB's global mission?

ABB is a global technology leader in electrification and automation with a history of over 140 years. ABB operates in Romania through all its 4 Business Areas: Electrification, Robotics & Discreet Automation, Motion and Process Automation.

Electrification is our main local business area, enabling efficient and reliable distribution of electricity from source to socket. We offer solutions and expertise for energy applications, renewables, energy transmission and distribution, smart buildings, smart cities, EV Charging, as well as Support Services. ABB helps industries run at high performance, while becoming more efficient, productive and sustainable so they outperform. At ABB, we call this ‘Engineered to Outrun’.

As a leader in electrification and automation, how does ABB Romania stay ahead in terms of innovation and technology?

The ABB Group is a technology company which spends over USD 1 billion on R&D activities. We offer our customers in Romania state of the art products and solutions developed by ABB and we continuously train our colleagues on the latest technological development.

What major trends do you see shaping the energy and industrial sectors in Romania, and how is ABB adapting to these changes?

There are several key trends shaping the Romanian energy and industrial sectors, such as the Energy transition and Renewables. Romania is increasingly focusing on renewable energy sources and on energy efficiency and sustainability.

ABB is actively adapting to these trends through:  Digitalization and Automation – by using digitalization and automation to enhance energy efficiency and reduce emissions across traditional industries; Supporting Renewable Energy - ABB focuses on supporting the development of new and renewable energy models; Energy Efficiency Solutions: ABB offers high-efficiency motors, drives, and control systems to optimize industrial processes and reduce energy consumption.

ABB’s efforts are aiming to enable a cleaner, more efficient energy system and support Romania’s transition to a sustainable energy future.

Sustainability is a core value at ABB. Can you share how ABB Romania is contributing to more sustainable solutions and practices in the local market?

At ABB we enable a more sustainable and resource-efficient future. As a technology leader in electrification and automation, ABB is at the core of accelerating the energy transition. Every day, we empower customers in Romania to optimize, electrify and decarbonize their operations through our products, solutions and services.

As an example ABB Romania’s Electrification Business Area has already replaced its traditional car fleet, with fully electric vehicles. By reducing its local carbon footprint, ABB Electrification in Romania contributes to and supports ABB’s sustainability goals.

Outside of work, what are some of your personal interests or hobbies that help you relax and stay motivated?

In my free time I enjoy going to the mountains for hiking and skiing which bring me relaxation and the opportunity to charge my batteries and disconnect from the daily business activities. I also enjoy reading business economic books to stay connected to the world changes and trends. I am always motivated by the teams’ achievement and collaboration and I fully support them in reaching their highest potential.
