About this webinar: The energy sector has to move to a net-zero – or even negative – greenhouse gas emission setup. This is very challenging, yet, provides many opportunities: New technologies like heat pumps or electric mobility need to be deployed to allow for decarbonisation, digitalisation will be fundamental to keep the energy system secure and resilient, and decentralization of energy production will play an important role: The three “D”s of a future resilient energy system! During this session, Christian Schaffner will discuss the challenges and the opportunities on this journey to a new energy supply system in the next 30 years. He will also present current findings of the research being conducted at the Energy Science Center of ETH Zurich.

About this webinar series: The «CEE-Swiss Impulse Sessions» is a monthly series of short webinars on exciting, current and relevant topics concerning Switzerland and Central Eastern Europe (CEE). It is delivered by outstanding speakers from many different backgrounds. The webinar series aims at inspiring, informing and connecting a diverse audience across industries and functions and thus advance the manifold relationships between Switzerland and all CEE countries. Initiated in 2021 by the Chamber of Commerce Switzerland Central Europe (SEC) in Zurich, this is a joint project of all chambers of commerce in the CEE region and SEC.

More information about our keynote speaker: Since September 2013, Christian Schaffer is the Executive Director of the Energy Science Center (ESC) of the ETH Zurich in Switzerland.
He received his M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering and his PhD degree in Electric Power Systems from ETH. Before his current role, he worked for the Swiss Federal Office of Energy.
